Piedmont - Monferrato - "Cascina San Remigio". A few kilometers from Acqui Terme, close to the village of Rivalta Bormida, there is the "Cascina San Remigio" rural building to be completely restored, built on the ancient Benedictine priory from which it takes its name. The first documents relating to the priory date back to 1200, but it is only after 1728 that the building was transformed into a home due to its deterioration which led to the collapse of the side aisles keeping only the central one. A stable with an above barn and a large porch of 55 m2 were built against the central body, built (probably) using the materials recovered from the walls of the disappeared naves. The entire building, of about 450 square meters, is arranged on two levels and transformed into a dwelling, with the exception of the presbytery and the apse which have been converted into the ancillary rooms (warehouse and stable). On the ground floor of the housing part there are ceilings with vaulted ceilings in old bricks dating from the early 1800s, while on the upper floor the ribbed vaults similar to those preserved in the apse room have been replaced by flat ceilings. At the center of the apse, there are still fragments of a late fifteenth century fresco. The current structure reveals the ancient pillars with rounded capitals surmounted by double-ring arches, inside which the windows have been inserted. Outside the apse there is a large opening which probably led to an underground cavity now buried. The property includes 45,000 square meters of surrounding land currently leased. The property also includes a well and a public water and energy connection nearby.
